Athena

Athena was the Greek goddess of wisdom, justice and skill. This amazing torbie has continued with that tradition. Athena arrived at Animal Aide in September of 2003, at the age of 1 year, but already raising four kittens of her own. Athena and her kittens were trapped by a cat-hating man who had to be talked into bringing them in to us rather than drowning the five of them. Although very frightened upon her arrival, Athena shows a wisdom far beyond her years. The injustice of her hardships before becoming part of our family, taught her the skills of street survival. Athena has a rough exterior, but a heart of gold and she has become a favourite of several of our volunteers. She is slow to trust people, but when you have earned that trust, you will know that you have accomplished a great feat. Athena is accepting appointments at Animal Aide at 333 Talbot St, St. Thomas, emails through the website, or calls at 519-633-3788. Remember, trust is a terrible thing to waste.

Clara & Patty

Clara (left) and Patty (right)
These two 'old' girls are very near and dear to all at Animal Aide and, after four years with us, have become mascots of our centre. Clara was trapped in a home where she was barely surviving with 34 other cats. Clara was taken from there to a wonderful foster home, but the shock of the dramatic change left Clara very spooked and wary of strangers. For approximately one year, Clara lived in the ceiling of this home where she was alone and frightened. When she arrived at Animal Aide on July 4, 2002, she was already 5 years old and set in her mysterious ways. At first, Clara rejected all of our efforts of love and affection, but then she met Patty. Patty arrived at Animal Aide on August 7, 2002 at the age of 6 years, and was sent to a foster home for a while. When Patty returned to our center, she took notice of Clara's inability to trust people and took her under her wing. Patty is a sweet old soul who is very quiet, enjoys being petted and has no fear of people. She can be held for short periods of time, but gets heavy quickly as she is slightly overweight and inactive. Since Patty's arrival from the foster home, Clara has come out of her shell. Seeing Patty so calm and relaxed in the company of people has given Clara a confidence we had not seen in her before. If you move slowly, Clara is happy to accept some petting and will usually stretch her head towards your hand. For Clara, being in a home would mean little without her best pal, Patty. Both girls enjoy a little soft food every day and we are happy to give them this special treat. These girls would do best in a home with no young children or other pets. We truly believe these two were destined to meet and they both deserve to find a loving home together where Patty can continue to work her magic. Patty is such a sweet girl, and Clara has been through enough! If you have room in your heart for these two 'old' girls, and can provide a safe environment where Clara won't feel the need to hide, please come visit Animal Aide at 333 Talbot St, St. Thomas, send an email, or call at 519-633-3788. Won't you give these two a chance?
